Cupeiro & Yukhnevich is a project formed by two musicians who come from different backgrounds, but who have the same concern and respect for music. The Galician Abraham Cupeiro is a multi-instrumentalist, collector and often manufacturer of the instruments he plays. Here he is in charge of giving sound esthetics to the melodies. Vadzim Yukhnevich, born in Minsk, is who dialogues with these melodies with his voice and principal instrument, the Bayan, a Russian-made button accordion. The name of their first disc , “Compromiscuo”, is the best way to describe a style of music which comes from European and American jazz, rhapsodies or classical music, to all of which these musicians give their special touch. There is a rampant eclecticism present in their repertoire, and a surprising richness in the variety of timbres in their music. They have tried to look for a comrpromise between the respect for the music and instruments of the past and the desire to use them in their own way, often surrealist but with great solidity, creating their own style, very compromiscuo!Between them they can connect an istrument as unusual today as the cornetto (which had its heyday in the 17th century) with Argentinian tango, or an Irish bagpipes with J.S.Bach. Without doubt the instrument which arouses most curiosity is the karnyx, a kind of giant celtic trumpet used in the time of the Romans, and instrument which is mechanically simple but impressive for its powerful presence and subtle sonority.
