"Few things are more pop in all Galicia than Alfonso Espiño" (Nico Vidal, journalist)The Espiño band was formed in late 2016 in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) following the breaking up of Alfonso Espiño’s ye-yé group Los Chavales. Just after taking off, Espiño won the first prize of the II Certame Galicia Creativa called up by the Fundación Autor. Since then, the band has recorded a mini LP debut album, called I (Volume 1), and a single, Flores, tambores e ilusións, both released in june 2017.Espiño’s songs, all originals and sung in Galician language, had been featured live in a good number of festivals all over Galicia during 2017 and 2018, including Felipop, Noroeste Estrella Galicia, Feito a Man, Vive Nigrán, Festival de la Luz, Galegote Rock, Curruncho Pop or SUNS Europe in Italy. Espiño’s labour has been appreciated by the critics again in 2018, 2019 and 2021, when the band was a finalist of the Premios Martín Códax da Música. Before Espiño (band), Alfonso Espiño started different pop and rock groups in Santiago as Contrastes (1992-2003, finalists of the II Día da Música Xove contest in 2001), Mega Purple Sex Toy Kit (2003-2006) or Los Chavales (2009-2016, winners of the I Euroyeyé Batalla de las Bandas in 2013 and finalists of the II Premios Martín Códax da Música in 2014). Alfonso Espiño is also a popular music researcher and author of "Compopstela: Música moderna en Santiago (1954-1976)" (2020), a book on the origins of the popular urban music scene in Santiago de Compostela.
