Zoelas

Matriarchy. The song as a cry. Its own popular speech, which spring from the country’s chant to hang on arrangements that look with both different and the same eyes.

Everything is yet to be written on a canvas that tastes of mountain, of Earth. A land that boils and that, sooner or later, will be thrown out.

Women and the Galician countryside. The deaf coexistence of two worlds condemned to live in oblivion.

When you search the web for images of "Galician women in the countryside", you immediately see pictures of wiped cheeks, hair silenced by dark cloths and work tools that are immediately put to work.

We, who know the countryside from the inside, are proud of these women who worked (and still do) the streams of a world full of contradictions. We also think that this image does not quite represent us.

Zoelas was born in this picture.

Always in an attempt to immerse themselves in a living rural world, not to forget where we come from.

To hold on to it without wavering.

To conserve its changes, not its continuity.

To feel ourselves alive and not extinguished.

Zoelas is made up of four voices: Bea García, Erica García, Patri Coucheiro and Pilar Naveira; and three musicians: Bruno Villamor (bagpipes, “requinto”, hurdy-gurdy), Miguel "Miki" Varela (percussions) and Miguel Rivadulla "Michel" (guitar).

We released "Evelaites" back in 2018. An album of mixtures, traditional music mixed with other styles. Songs that combine our own lyrics with traditional melodies and others with traditional lyrics wrapped in melodies cre
