Germán Diaz was born in 1978 in Valladolid where he also conducted his studies of classical guitar and Classical Philology at the University of Valladolid, as well as the postgraduate course "University Specialist in studies on tradition". He learned to play the hurdy-gurdy (zanfona) with many musicians, among them: Rafael Martín, Pascal Lefeuvre, Laurent Tixier, Isabelle Pignol, Gilles Chabenat, Nigel Eaton, Patrick Boufard, Laurence Bourdin, Valentin Clastrier...He has performed all around the world in prestigious concert halls and festivals such as Royal Theatre (Marrakesh), Het Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), University of Colombia (Colombia), Odessa Jazz Carnival (Ukraine), Central House of Architect (Moscow), Amuz (Antwerp), Stans Music Festival (Switzerland), with numerous ensembles and performers like Uxía, Wafir Shekeldin Gibril, Pascal Lefeuvre, Valentin Clastrier, Joaquín Saura, Quarteto Medieval de Urueña, Paolo Angeli, Tasto Solo...He was a member of the mythic Viellistic Orchestra, a hurdy-gurdy orchestra settled in France that gathered only top notch musicians. This project disbanded in 2004 leaving Germán to create a duo with the former artistic director Pascal Lefeuvre and to co-found "Symphonia Quartet" an Iberian quartet of hurdy-gurdies with Rafael Martín, Marc Egea y Pascal Lefeuvre.He has received many awards and mentions such as "Racimo de Oro" for his work on compiling and diffusing traditional folk music; Second Best Album 2009 for "Cuadernos de Jazz".
