Felipe Villar Trío

The guitarist Felipe Villar (Vigo, 1976), starts by studying classic guitar in the conservatoire, and after a long periplus of self-taught of the Blues and Funk he is interested for the Jazz. He obtains his degree in Jazz in ESMAE (Oporto) in the year 2011, though it began in this of the jazz by the hand of the SPJ and Estudio Escola de Música with teachers like Abe Rábade, Paco Charlín or Suso Atanes. He received classes of people like Nuno Ferreira, Jordi Rossy, Peter Bernstein, Michael Kanan, Jonathan Kreisberg, Lage Lund, Walter Smith, Mike Moreno, Jonathan Blake, Dave Liebman, Gilad Heckselman or Greg Ruggiero from an endless list.

He takes part in bands as Alberto Vilas Quinteto, Rua da Alegria, Proxecto Lusogalaico, Esmae Big Band, Javier Marcos Trío, Jazzología, Antonio Otero Quartet, The Groove Project, Ten Jazz Men... He appeared in the main festivals and Jazz clubs of Galicia, Spain and Portugal: Festival of Jazz of Pontevedra, Festival of Jazz of Lugo, Nigranjazz, Imaxina Sons, Casa da Música (Porto), Xancarajazz, Filloa, Clavicembalo, Dado Dadá...

With his trio he has just recorded in January, 2014 what will be his first record as a leader: "Home," accompanied by Max Gómez on drums and José Manuel Díaz on double-bass. A record that first of all tries to be very honest, a live recording in his home studio, trying to approach the sound of two of his big heroes: Jim Hall and Peter Bernstein.
