Our HISTORY:In ancient Vedic texts, the word Samudra was used to refer to the ocean as the water that unites and surrounds the Earth. From the Sanskrit ‘sam’ (union) and ‘udra’ (water), Samudra (समुद्र) is "the merging of waters."So in this trio, we personify this union of three waters, three timbres and three female performers. We are Laura Lorenzo Rodríguez (flute), Jimena Andión García (cello) and Yamini T. Prabhu Barretto (piano) and we joined our paths in 2019 to show a new vision of chamber music, with an atypical formation, in the Galician panorama. Our PHILOSOPHY:From our backgrounds and experiences, we experiment with the sounds that make up our three instruments, to explore the limits of their three timbres: wind, strings and keyboard. Our interest in the unknown repertoire outside Western trends and the recovery of musical heritage has led us to venture beyond the original repertoire for this formation, besides making musical arrangements that incorporate works by forgotten male and female composers. We travel through the rhythms of the American continent, interspersed by the sonorities of classical Europe, all the way to the colours of the extremely varied music of Asia to show the value of a world where diversity is celebrated. In Samudra Trío we aim to share the many types of classical music in the world, which are as diverse and wonderful as the cultures and the people that are part of it.
