Mercedes Peón is considered one of the most charismatic women in the world music circuit nowadays. She was born in 1967 and at age 13 she heard several women from a Costa da Morte singing. The playing of the tambourine and the singing of the Ribeira native was the trigger to collect the songs, dances, stories and experiences of her contemporary villagers. She conveyed all that knowledge teaching in local schools, on the TVG (Galician TV), and at universities such as the Sorbonne, Universidade do Porto, University of Wales, etc.The variety of her compositions that start in polyrhythms under the influence of ancestral rhythms and culminate in vibrant and shamelessly eclectic songs, her extensive repertoire and the charm and energy that dominate of each of her performances make out of this lady a safe bet for the continuity of the etno-contemporary scene in Europe. After delving into tradition for over 25 years, in 2000 she recorded her first album called "Isué". In her latest works, "Ajrú" (2004) and "Siha", 2007, her compositions took her to a special atmosphere, almost in the electroacoustic, which has resulted in her distinct signature inside and outside our borders. In 2011, she released “Sós”, a turning point where the artist shows creative maturity and more freedom than ever. Her latest album, "Deixaas" (2018), is a daring and bold artistic proposal where Peón expands her melodic universe and poetic vision together with Mónica de Nut and Ana Fernández.
