Carmen Penim studied lyrical singing and jazz in Italy, where she founded the duo 2naFronteira (2008) together with the Italian pianist Maurizio Polsinelli. With this duo, Carmen published four albums where the Galician language and culture are the leading roles from an eclectic musical approach.Carmen's compositions are characterized by great sensitivity and empathy to tell heroic and simple stories about Galician people. You can clearly hear the collective voice of the Couto Mixto, particularly of their women, through her songs. In terms of live performance, both the public and critics highlight its sweetness while communicating with the public, the expressive strength and one of the best current voices, with a great variety of registers, colors and a strong emotion.In 2017 she published his first solo work, "Herdeiras", where she coordinates more than 25 people, including musicians, essayists, poets ... Woman, identity and memory are the center of this work, which also includes a short film by Margarita Ledo. With this project, she intends to make visible the women of the Spanish Civil War and, at the same time, the work of current female creators and their music. Musically, "Herdeiras" is framed within jazz and vocal improvisation, with theatrical interpretative elements and bold arrangements used for arches. On stage, she is supported by the choreography and dance of Xiana Vilas.In addition, Carmen works for the recovery of the church harmonium for concert use through the "A voz da pedra" project.
