Andrés Penabad is an accordionist with an extensive career in the music world. He began his music education at just 14 with the help of his teacher Javier Díaz Carrasco and continued his studies at Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Getafe. He attended several master lessons taught by San Petesburg’s accordion profesor Oleg Sharov, as well as performers Iñaki Diéguez and Ángel Luis Castaño. He currently teaches accordion lessons in the school named after him.His CV features a long list of national and international awards, highlighting his first place in the “outstanding soloist” category at the Certamen Internacional de Acordeón hosted in Torrelavega (Cantabria, 2014). He also worked with Carlos Núñez, Kepa Junkera, Susana Seivane, Luar na Lubre or John Whelan. The accordion is the main feature of his first solo job, “Crossing” (2014), a folk album of the highest quality. Song after song, he is accompanied by talented artists such as Kepa Junkera, Bieito Romero or Fernando Barroso. His second álbum “Bipolar” (2016) shows a more mature Penabad; this work was conceived for live shows, leaving out all technical or human requirements. Therefore, Andrés is surrounded by his band in addition of some collaborations like singers and pandereteiras Lilaina, Pablo Vergara at the bodhran, Ramón Dopico at percussions or Álvaro Trillo at the drums. This way, Penabad pretends to maintain his name in the Galician folk scene.
